It has been over a century since dyslexia was described.  One hundred years of research, education and re-education - still I  and all dyslexics continue to struggle and suffer.  This is my moment - I am seizing it - for all of us. On my 16th birthday I could barely read and write.  Not for lack of trying, not for lack of testing, not for lack of education and re-education, not for lack of encouragement. One month later I have laughed out loud, cried and just plain smiled while reading: The Adventures(aka ekventers) of Huckleberry Finn, Lord of the Flies, Ender's Game and Catcher in the Rye - 4 novels not just one! One month ago I had not succeeded in reading a single novel.  I tried, I cried, I lied about it and I was mortally embarrassed by my failure. We will not read if it hurts and we will not write if it hurts.  I love to read and I love to write today.  Follow me on my "ekventer" and find out how I learned to love to read and write - lets ekventer together. OK I admit it - I'm the one that spelled adventure - ekventer.  I still can't spell worth a hoot as you will find out as I blog, but I believe I am going to slay that beast also...    Eric Bartl • August 30th 2009
